The Hub Initiative

A Community HUB is a place that provides central access for a variety of health, social services, cultural, and recreational services to nourish and support community life. A community hub can be a school, a neighbourhood centre, an early learning centre, a library, a seniors’ centre, a community health centre, an old government building, a place of worship or another public space.

Community hubs are a concept that both communities and policymakers agree make sense. Community hubs reflect local community needs. Having a variety of support programs for people of all ages can forestall more intensive and costly programs in the future. They help bring communities together while providing improved access to services and better health outcomes for people.

Our Work

The Central Etobicoke Community Hub Initiative (CECHi) advocates for the creation of new community spaces and the expansion of community services in Central Etobicoke. The CECHi is working toward establishing a “hub” so that health, social, cultural and recreational services can be provided to residents in an accessible, safe and positive environment.

Through our partnerships with service agencies throughout Etobicoke, the CECHi participates in a wide array of activities to help make our community a better place for residents. Throughout the year, the CECHi hosts or co-hosts a variety of events to bring residents together and to advocate for improvements to the quality of life in Etobicoke.
